Some points on good eating habits:
- Eat only when you are hungry. Beware of false hunger and avoid excessive eating.
- Eat less and chew more. Do not eat hastily or fast.
- Fast once in a week. Fasting removes toxic materials, overhauls the internal system and gives rest to the organs.
- Do not overload the stomach. do not eat anything which you dislike; but also try not to eat only things which you enjoy eating.
- Reduce cooked food to a minimum. Always include an abundant quantity of fresh, raw salads and fruits in your meals.
- Eat only four or five kinds of foods at one meal. Give up many varieties. It is difficult for the digestive juices to diget many varieties of food materials.
- Eat only those food that combine well, that is, foods that agree with one another. You will learn it from your experience.
- Have foods that contain iron. For example, red meats, especially liver, fruits like watermelon and pomegranate, vegetables like spinach, beans, and broccoli, whole grains, dried fruits, especially prunes, sunflower seeds, etc.
- Add fiber-rich food to your diet. Fiber adds bulk to your food and prevents constipation.
- Use minimum amount of salt for cooking if you have high blood pressure.
- Do not eat anything between meals. With the exception of water, drink nothing between meals.
- Rice and vegetables should be steamed. If they are boiled, the water should not be thrown away, as it contains valuable minerals. Use of unpolished is great!
- Take food at fixed hours and maintain the routine.
- Don’t engage in strenuous physical or mental work immediately after a meal. A little rest after meals, specially in case of dinner, is very beneficial. Rest helps the body to restore it’s spent energy.
- Make changes in diet with care. If an article disagree with you, reduce the quantity. Use your common sense to guide you and do not make any sudden or drastic changes.

I really like your post and will take the advice. I just cut out tea and sugar and already feel much better.
Great tips! Without going through an official making of a resolution, I do intend to lose a whole lot of weight this year… I know what needs to be done… it’s the discipline that seems to be lacking… getting just a few pounds off will help keep the momentum and motivation going… sigh… anyways, here’s wishing you a Happy 2009!!
