Alcohol including Wine increases Breast Cancer risk
Alcohol consumption is not good for health, specially when you are a women. Because, regular intake of alcohol increases the chances of breast cancer in women. Some researchers have already proved that alcohol consumption, even at a moderate rate, increases the chances of cancer , specially cancer of the breast, rectum, and liver, in women. And now another study published in latest issue of journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, sheds some light on the harmful effects of alcohol on women.

According to the findings of the study, conducted by researchers at Fred Hutchinson Center, two or more drinks per day increases the risk of breast cancer and there is no difference between red and white wine when it comes to risk of breast cancer. “We found no difference between red or white wine in relation to breast-cancer risk. Neither they appears to have any benefits,” said lead author Polly Newcomb, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
For the study, the researchers interviewed 6,327 breast cancer patients along with 7,558 age-matched controls in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The information collected includes frequency of alcohol consumption, family history of breast cancer, use of postmenopausal hormone etc.
At the end of the study, the researchers found that women who consumed 14 or more alcoholic beverages per week (wine, liquor or beer), had 24% more risk of breast cancer compared to those who don’t drink. The researchers also noted that wine did not increase breast cancer risk. But there was also no evidence of positive effect of red wine. So, the researches concluded that red wine neither had a beneficial or harmful effect on breast cancer.
