Exercise is good after Heart Attack, if one Sticks to It!

Exercise is good for our health. I am sure that everyone is aware of this fact. Now, a new study sheds some light on the benefits of exercise on patients recovering from a heart attack and suggests that exercise does provides benefits as long as the patient continues the regular exercise. Once the exercise stops, the benefits starts to vanish.

ExerciseAccording to the findings of the Swiss study, exercise training does improve blood vessel function in a patient with recent heart attack (acute myocardial infarction). But, the benefits vanishes after 4 weeks, if the patient discontinues the exercise training.

The controlled trial was done to evaluate the effect of different types of exercise training on endothelial function in 209 patients referred to a rehabilitation program after a heart attack between March 31, 2003, and March 31, 2005. The participants were randomized into 4 groups according to exercise training - aerobic training, resistance training, both aerobic and resistant training combined, or no exercise. Four months of exercise training was followed by one month of detraining and endothelial function was evaluated during each stage.

At the end of the study, the researchers found that regardless of the type of exercise training, patients in exercise groups saw a significant improvement in their blood vessel function. And all the benefits disappeared after one month of stopping exercise. It means a person recovering from a recent heart attack must maintain a regular routine of daily exercise, if he/she wants to enjoy the benefits of exercise on the blood vessel function.

I wonder what happens when the patient is too ill to exercise and doesn’t exercise until much later. I’m thinking that the results are still good because I certainly feel fine.

That is the problem, people start off strong and then give up. I am one who needs to exercise more routinely. www.pennies2dollars.today.com
