FDA Updates List of Tainted Weight Loss Products
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday updated it’s nationwide alert about tainted weight-loss products that contains potentially dangerous ingredients. Now the FDA list of tainted weight loss products includes 72 products and as an intelligent consumer you must not use any one of those products. Otherwise, consequences will be very severe, FDA warns.
This is for the second time, FDA has expanded the list of tainted weight loss products. FDA first warned consumers about 28 different tainted weight loss products on December 22, 2008. Then on January 8, 2009, the agency expanded the list by adding 41 more products to the list. And now, on March 20, 2009, the list is again updated with addition of 3 more tainted products - Herbal Xenicol, Slimbionic, and Xsvelten.
According to FDA, all those tainted weight loss products contains undeclared ingredients and even prescription drugs. And many of them are marketed as natural or herbal products, which is not true. Use of these products can lead to some very serious consequences including high blood pressure, heart attack, seizures, and stroke.
It means all of those products pose a great risk to public health and people must avoid them. FDA is currently seeking product recalls and may soon take some additional actions against the companies selling those illegal products. So, FDA is already doing it’s job. Now, this is your turn to act. Don’t believe advertisements, check the list of tainted products of FDA site and stay away from them. If you are already using one of those products, consult your doctor immediately.
